Our Environmental Commitment

Being a team of women, we know how much it matters to look after the planet for the generations to come. Our goal is to lower our footprint by crafting premium pieces that are kinder to you, to your little one and to the environment. Every Hotmilk garment is sourced ethically and goes through strict testing, so the fabrics and hardware stay safe and free of harmful chemicals.

Below are some of the steps we take to cut our footprint:

Every Hotmilk order arrives in a small pink courier bag, and we want to be sure it never ends up in a landfill or the sea. Here is what you can do with our packaging:

Reuse it. These bags work well as wet bags, food scrap bags, or even nappy bags!

Recycle it. Drop it into the soft plastics recycling bin at a participating store near you.

No plastic hangers come with our garments, and they travel in bulk cartons rather than single-use petrochemical plastic bags.

A few of our more delicate styles need extra protection on the way to our factories, so they travel in individual recyclable plastic bags. When your online order is packed, we take your item out of that bag and recycle it.

Hotmilk garments are created with you and the planet in mind. Everything from fit to fabric is designed to be innovative, modern, sexy, comfy and eco-conscious.

Our team of experienced women knows the changes and challenges bodies face across different life stages. That understanding drives all of our work and inspires bras that feel supportive, comfy and empowering for every woman.

From style through to safety, we truly care about you and your journey as a woman. We research the fabrics and trims we choose in depth so they are safe for nursing mothers and their babies.

Materials matter, and even small steps can make a real difference. We keep exploring ways to bring recycled and natural fibres into our range, and several pieces already use them.

How we test our garments:

Functional parts, including nursing clips and hook & eye closures, are checked for safety, strength and quality.

During design and production, we test and fit our garments on real women so they give support where it counts and fit true to size. A great fit means you will want to keep wearing your bra through pregnancy and afterwards, which extends its life.

Certified suppliers provide every Hotmilk fabric and trim, meeting the Oekotex 100 standard for skin safety. So the garments and their dyes sit safely on your skin, free from nasty chemicals and heavy metals.

We try to source our fabrics as ethically as possible, using leftover stock fabrics and trims, often surplus from bigger company orders, which keeps that material out of landfill.

We pay close attention to fibre quality so each garment lasts. Our multi-fit designs stretch between sizes and grow with you, which means you do not need dozens of different bras. Bras with 4-6 hook and eye bands are a lovely example, letting you adjust easily as your body changes.

Before production begins, every Hotmilk style is tested for full quality compliance, so garments keep their colour, shape and function.

We partner with courier companies that have sound environmental policies and are also working to shrink their carbon footprint.

Designed in New Zealand, Hotmilk Collective garments are made in long-standing factories with strong reputations and worldwide-recognised certifications for ethical and environmental standards. Outside auditors regularly review their policies for compliance, keeping these standards upheld.

Environmental: We regularly audit our factories for Environmental Compliance covering resource consumption, disposal and emissions. It spans international policies for handling water, air, noise, energy and waste, keeping sustainable production front and centre.

Ethical: We insist on protecting workers' rights, covering (among other things) international policies on human rights, fair hours, pay, safe working and living conditions, and freedom from discrimination, forced labour and child labour.

Business Social Compliance (BSCI): This initiative works to keep improving factory working conditions, built on International Labour Organization (ILO) labour standards, national laws and other international rules such as the UN Charta for Human Rights. Every factory we use must comply, and we keep pushing for better. To learn more, see BSCI

At Hotmilk we pick products with minimal environmental impact, and that begins with our daily office routine. Our staff kitchen compost feeds our designer's chickens, we use gentler cleaning products that are kinder to the environment and to our bodies, and we print as little as we can.
